A new cross-border conservative coalition is calling on Washington lawmakers to change their policy toward Mexico and scrutinize the neighboring country for its alleged collusion with drug cartels.

The US-Mexico Conservative Policy Coalition states: “The Mexican government and Mexican criminal cartels exist in conscious and voluntary symbiosis, at multiple levels, up to and including the Mexican presidency…the current president of Mexico has expressed openness to a pact with the cartels and has spoken of his willingness to defend them from US action.

The same day the coalition made its announcement, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador counterattacked, calling on Latino “compatriots” in the United States to vote against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

He also asked Latinos to vote against members of the Texas legislature supporting Operation Lone Star, which targeted border trespassing.

The announcement follows a statement in May by the Mexican president calling on Florida Hispanics to vote against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The conservative coalition, which includes the America First Policy Institute, Center for Renewing America, Center for a Secure Free Society, Fundación Patria Unida, The Heritage Foundation, says the Mexican government “is failing in its obligation to exercise full sovereignty over its own territory and citizenship,” and is “failing in its obligation to preserve its territory from use as a base of operations against its neighbors,” referring to the southwestern states.

The creation of the coalition and its forceful statements come after the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) called on Texas to act in September and Gov. Greg Abbott designated the Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations in November.

On November 16, Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Military Department (TMD) to expand their efforts to combat illegal immigration at the border.

On the same date, Abbott sent a letter to the director of DPS and the deputy general of TMD in which he praised both organizations for their work, stating that the number of arrests they had made was “staggering” and that “the surge of fentanyl and criminals you have arrested is shocking.

In that letter, the governor also authorized the two organizations to deploy the National Guard “to safeguard our border and repel and turn away immigrants attempting to cross the border illegally,” build a border wall in several counties, and deploy gunboats to secure border.

It also authorized designating the Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, “entering into a pact with other states to secure the border… agreements with foreign powers to improve border security, and providing resources for border counties to increase their efforts to respond to the border invasion”. Some reports suggest that the Texas governor now plans to call a special legislative session to pass tougher border security measures.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s leadership has not remained silent about other actions by the governors and has also called on Americans to vote against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his strong immigration reform legislation.

On May 26, ADN America reported that López Obrador lashed out at DeSantis after Florida’s new E-Verify law went into effect on July 1. “His whole political game with migrants was because he wanted to be the Republican Party nominee.” López Obrador said during a press conference. “I hope Florida Hispanics wake up and don’t give him a single vote.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico also set off alarm bells by insisting that the new Florida law “will affect the human rights of thousands of people, Mexican girls and boys, exacerbating hostile situations that could lead to hate crimes against the migrant community. “

DeSantis’s actions follow an investigation into the human trafficking of children from Mexico to the United States. Authorities are uncovering violations of child labor and child sex trafficking laws as a result of the release of unaccompanied minors in the US Since Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021, Texas has made more than 30,800 criminal arrests, with more than 28,700 felony reports. They have also seized more than 421 million lethal doses of fentanyl at the Texas-Mexico border. “Until Congress acts or the Biden Administration does its constitutionally required job, the Texas Guards and Troops must bear the burden of securing the border,” Abbott said in his November 16 letter.

“You must continue to keep Texans and Americans safe and protect against an invasion of the southern border. I command you to use all available resources and tools to repel immigrants attempting to cross illegally, apprehend those who cross illegally, and turn them back.” to the border, and arrest criminals who violate Texas law,” the text reads.

The new US-Mexico Conservative Policy Coalition says the Mexican government’s actions speak for themselves and leave the US with little choice but to take a more aggressive approach.

“The Mexican government is not an ally of the United States and can no longer properly be described as a partner…,” the coalition stated.
