Ohio Republican businessman and candidate for U.S. Senate in 2024 Bernie Moreno said that if President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) want people to take them seriously when they claim they don’t want open borders, then they should extend Title 42 and finish building former President Donald Trump‘s wall.

His statement follows Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Tuesday agreeing to send 1,500 U.S. soldiers to the Mexico border at the Biden administration’s request. However, as Title 42, a pandemic-related immigration policy, is slated to expire next week, the soldiers will only be used for administrative work.

On May 11th, Title 42 orders will expire. The policy, which was implemented during the COVID-19 outbreak, forbids migrants from obtaining asylum, enabling border officers to quickly send many of them back to Mexico.

According to Moreno (pictured above), Biden needs to send the 1,500 soldiers to the border in law enforcement, not administrative capacity.

“Joe Biden and Sherrod Brown have allowed an invasion at our border- With millions of illegals streaming in. The short-term solution is simple, extend Title 42 and send the military to the border in a law enforcement capacity. Our leaders must also make crystal clear to those attempting to break our laws that we won’t allow any backdoor amnesty, including through so-called ‘asylum’,” Moreno said.

According to Moreno, since Biden assumed office in 2021, the open border policies promoted by him and his Democratic Senate allies, including Brown, have caused millions of illegal immigrants to continue pouring into the nation. Moreno claims that with Title 42 ending, the invasion will only worsen.

“No civilized and sane nation should allow this type of invasion, and with the coming elimination of Title 42 by the Biden Administration, that invasion is only going to get worse. Biden’s solution is to send 1,500 members of the military to the border to help with ‘administrative’ tasks, but he knows full well that won’t solve the crisis at the border,” Moreno said.

Under Biden’s immigration policies, illegal border crossings have soared to all-time highs.

In Fiscal Year 2021 alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection experienced 1.7 million encounters with aliens at the southern border, the highest number ever recorded in a single year. That number does not include people who evaded Border Patrol officers. According to the internal Border Patrol estimates from January through August 2021, more than 273,000 migrants avoided apprehension and entered the country illegally.

Department of Homeland Security intelligence estimates 25,000 migrants are already in Mexican shelters just south of the border, waiting for Title 42 to end.

Moreno noted that the long-term solution is to immediately construct the wall begun by former president Trump, eliminate all social welfare incentives for immigrants, punish sanctuary cities and states by cutting off federal funding, and tighten up on employers that hire illegals.

According to Moreno, Biden, Brown, and the Democratic Party need to finally start acting like they don’t want open borders.

“If Joe Biden, Sherrod Brown, and the rest of the Democrat Party want people to take them seriously when they claim they don’t want ‘open borders,’ then they should finally start acting like it,” Moreno said.

Moreno is challenging Brown for U.S. Senate in 2024 and has been endorsed by Columbus venture capitalist Mark Kvamme and received praise from Trump.
