Indiana Republican Rep. Jim Banks on Tuesday announced his 2024 bid for the Senate seat of outgoing Sen. Mike Braun.

Banks in his announcement touted his conservative views.

“Indiana deserves a conservative fighter in the United States Senate,” he said in an online video announcement. “But the radical Democrats and the spineless Republicans are going to do everything that they can to stop me.”

Banks is seeking to succeed GOP Sen. Mike Braun, who filed in November to run for Indiana governor in 2024. Banks, who won reelection with more than 65% of the vote in 2022 according to the Associated Press, is the only person so far to have declared candidacy for Indiana’s 2024 Senate race.

Banks highlighted his military career and how he was a first-generation college student in his campaign launch video. He touted his conservative policies on immigration, COVID, abortion and foreign affairs. Banks also praised former President Donald Trump as the “strongest president” in his life and slammed President Joe Biden as the “weakest” leader who “has always put America last.”

“Our nation is at a turning point. We need conservatives in Washington who are not afraid to fight back against the radical socialist Democrats who are trying to change America,” Banks said.
