U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance on Tuesday blasted Dr. Anthony Fauci for suggesting the U.S. should consider a coronavirus vaccine requirement for domestic air travel.

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases explained, in an interview with MSNBC, that he believes the mandate “is reasonable to consider.”

Vance, who has remained an outspoken critic of President Joe Biden’s mandates, said the idea would further hurt the economy, as the country is in the middle of another coronavirus wave.

“Every time Fauci opens his mouth, the entire country groans in unison. We are in the midst of a massive national COVID wave despite readily available vaccines, yet, instead of focus on making therapeutics like Monoclonal Antibodies available to anyone who wants them, our bureaucrat in chief just proposed a freedom-crushing and economy-crippling vaccine mandate for domestic airline travel,” Vance said in a statement.

Furthermore, the Senate contender reiterated calls, made by conservatives across the country, for Dr. Fauci to lose his job.

“This new proposal won’t save any lives and solves no problems except for Fauci’s sad desire to make headlines by threatening Americans with a loss of their most basic liberties. Shame on Fauci for this new proposal, shame on the media for cheering him on, and shame on Biden keeping him in his job,” Vance added.

Vance’s staunch opposition to vaccine mandates have remained a central focus of his campaign. Repeatedly, the bestselling author has spoken out against the idea.

Earlier this year, when Biden first announced a mandate for private businesses with at least 100 employees, Vance encouraged companies to defy the order.

“I have a simple message for America’s business community: DO NOT COMPLY,” Vance instructed the companies.
