Republican state lawmakers sent a letter to Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D), urging the executive to remove Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm from office.

Chisholm has received harsh backlash for the decision from his office to recommend $1,000 bail for Darrell Brooks. After being released from custody, Brooks allegedly plowed his vehicle through a Christmas parade. He allegedly killed multiple people and injured dozens more.

Brooks has also been accused of attempting to run over his ex-girlfriend after he caught her with another man weeks before his attack.

“As members of the Waukesha County legislative delegation, we stand united in our efforts to heal Waukesha after the horrific incident at the Christmas Parade. We continue to pray for all the victims, their families, and our community. We hope this tragedy never happens to another Wisconsin community because it should have never happened in Waukesha,” the group wrote in their letter.

According to former Waukesha prosecutor Tom Grieve, the low bail numbers are routine procedures in Milwaukee County.

“It’s standard for Milwaukee,” Grieve told Fox News. “This is not bail you would be getting in Waukesha County, that’s for sure.”

However, in order for Evers to consider removing Chisholm, the governor must receive a complaint from a Milwaukee County resident.

In part, the lawmakers’ letter hopes to inspire a resident to come forward with a complaint.

“Chisholm has refused to step down after a flood of calls for his resignation. Because of this, we are calling on you to remove John Chisholm as Milwaukee County District Attorney,” the lawmakers continued in their letter. “It is clear to us as legislators and many people from the Waukesha County and Milwaukee County areas affected by the recent tragedy that District Attorney Chisholm has neglected his duty in his office.”
