Dr. Carol Swain, a former professor at Vanderbilt University and Princeton University, will join the Texas Public Policy Foundation as a Distinguished Senior Fellow for Constitutional Studies, according to a press release from the group on Friday.
In her position, Swain will assist the foundation in initiatives that examine Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the importance of civics education.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Carol Swain as our Distinguished Senior Fellow for Constitutional Studies,” said Kevin Roberts, CEO of TPPF. “She will provide a wealth of experience and institutional knowledge to our education team, battling the toxic ideology of CRT and elevating the importance of civics education, just as she did on the 1776 commission.”
Repeatedly, Swain has spoken out against progressive ideals and worked to advocate for the founding principles of the country.
“There are some matches made in heaven,” said Dr. Swain. “My fellowship with TPPF is one of them. For me, this opportunity comes at an auspicious time in my life and the life of our nation. We are teetering on the edge of a precipice. TPPF is working overtime for the values and principles that undergird our nation. I eagerly join forces with them as I embrace the slogan, ‘Don’t mess with Texas.’”
Most recently, Swain analyzed the effect of CRT policies in her book Black Eye for America, How Critical Race Theory is Burning Down the House.
In addition to authoring numerous books, former President Donald Trump named her vice chairman of the 1776 Commission, an advisory group to the president formed to restore an accurate understanding of the nation’s founding and history.
“It’s essential that the citizens know how their nation was founded, the principles that motivated the founding fathers, and how those principles have influenced the nation since 1776. Part of what we’re focusing on in the commission are those high ideals associated with the declaration that have influenced the American Constitution as well as the Civil Rights laws and various events thereafter,” Swain said at the time.
