House Republicans voted on Wednesday to nominate House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to lead the lower chamber once more.

The House GOP conference also re-elected Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn. Both were running unopposed, per Politico.

Trump has said he plans to nominate Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., the outgoing GOP conference chair, as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., who has been serving as GOP conference secretary, ran against Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., to replace Stefanik.

President-elect Donald Trump met with House Republicans on Wednesday morning in advance of the leadership election and delivered remarks. During his speech, he reaffirmed his support for Johnson.

House Republicans are projected to retain control of the House chamber, according to Decision Desk HQ.
