Ohio businessman Bernie Moreno on Tuesday was projected to win the Republican Senate primary and will go on to face Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in November.
The Associated Press called the race for Moreno, who earned 41.2% of the vote as of 8:36 p.m. with 23% of precincts reporting. State Sen. Matt Dolan trailed with 36.8% while Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose earned 22.1%.
Ahead of the contest, Moreno earned backing from key Republican leaders, including former President Donald Trump and Wyoming GOP Sen. John Barrasso.
The Ohio race is considered one of the Republican Party’s best chances to flip a seat in the 2024 battle for the upper chamber.
