A new survey conducted in California not only shows that genital mutilation surgeries do not decrease suicide rates among so-called “transgender” people, but actually causes them to double.
As the Daily Caller reports, the study from AUA Journals found that twice as many men who identified as women attempted to commit suicide after receiving the surgery to permanently alter their genitals, a procedure erroneously referred to by proponents as “gender-affirmation” surgery.
The survey covered 869 patients who received a vaginoplasty surgery (men trying to become women) and another 357 who received a phalloplasty surgery (women trying to become men), all between the years of 2012 and 2018. Using data from the state’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, it was determined that, prior to receiving the vaginoplasty surgery, the rate of attempted suicide was 1.5%; after the surgery, it increased to 3.3%.
Among those who had not yet received a vaginoplasty surgery, the rate of at least one ER or in-patient psych encounters per patient was 22.2%; it increased to 33.9% after the surgery took place. Among phalloplasty patients, the rate was 20.7% prior to the surgeries, and 26.5% after the surgeries.
“Rates of psychiatric emergencies are high both before and after [surgery]. Although both the phalloplasty and vaginoplasty patients have similar overall rates of psychiatric encounters, suicide attempts are more common in the [latter],” the authors of the study concluded. “In fact, our observed rate of suicide attempts in the phalloplasty group is actually similar to the general population, while the vaginoplasty group’s rate is more than double that of the general population. Patients undergoing [vaginoplasty] with a history of prior psychiatric emergencies or feminizing transition are at a higher risk and should be counseled appropriately.”
These findings provide further confirmation that transgenderism – the false belief that anyone can simply change their gender whenever they feel like it – is a mental illness rather than a legitimate biological condition, and that the various prescribed “solutions,” from hormone treatment to surgical procedures, do not solve the problem but instead make it even worse.
