A new survey suggests that a clear majority of Democratic voters would be in favor of blocking the certification of the electoral vote in 2024 if President Donald Trump wins the election again.

As Breitbart reports, the new poll from Rasmussen Reports asked likely voters the following question: “Some Democrats in Congress have said that if Trump wins this year’s election, they will vote against certifying the election results because of Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. Do you support or oppose Democrats refusing to certify the election results if Trump wins?”

The results found that 57% of registered Democrats would oppose certification, as would nearly two-thirds of self-described “liberals.” But the overall poll found that just 35% would oppose certification of a second Trump victory, while 55% would support it.

The poll featured a sample size of 912 likely voters, and was conducted from March 5th to March 7th. The margin of error is 3%.

Although Democrats have not yet given a clear reason for opposing certification of a Trump victory, the idea has spread and gained some traction on the Left. Democrats and leftist activists had previously begged for electoral college electors to not cast their votes for Trump after the 2016 election, to no avail.

The 2024 election is setting up to be the first presidential rematch since 1956, with President Trump once again facing Democrat Joe Biden. Although there were efforts to reject electoral college votes after the 2020 election, those attempts were in response to widespread and credible accusations of voter fraud in the key swing states, which may have ultimately swung the election away from Trump and in Biden’s favor. Democrats who now oppose certifying a potential Trump win have given no reason other than vague claims that President Trump is a threat to “democracy.”
