The Biden Administration’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) could soon employ the use of so-called “indigenous knowledge” in research efforts going forward, according to internal documents.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the document in question is a planned revision of scientific integrity guidelines within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which includes such agencies as the FDA, the CDC, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The document calls for all agencies to utilize “multiple forms of evidence, such as indigenous knowledge,” when conducting research.

The concept of “indigenous knowledge” believes that Native Americans possess unique knowledge about health through their traditions, rituals, and spiritual beliefs, even though these have long since been dismissed by the scientific community as having no basis in actual science.

Other “non-traditional modes of science” recommended by the internal HHS document include “citizen science, community-engaged research, participatory science, and crowdsourcing.” The agency plans to lean more towards such anti-scientific methods in order to display “support” for “equity, justice, and trust,” according to the document.

“A strong culture of scientific integrity begins with ensuring a professional environment that is safe, equitable, and inclusive,” the report continues. “Issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are an integral component of the entire scientific process.”

The new guidelines are set to be implemented this year, although there has not yet been any comment from HHS.

This is not the first time the Biden Administration has enacted policy on the basis of debunked indigenous beliefs. In 2022, the Department of Justice (DOJ) spent over $1 million on a new center for “two-spirit youth,” a new sexuality based on the native belief that a person can have both a female and male spirit inside them at the same time.
