The Washington, D.C., man who earlier this year attacked Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig in the elevator of her Capitol Hill-area apartment building has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for the crime.
The defendant, Kendrid Khalil Hamlin, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg.
The judge acknowledged Hamlin, 27, has mental health issues but said some of this conduct has been “extremely problematic.”
Hamlin plead guilty to the attack in February and has apologized the the Democrat lawmaker.
Craig fought off the attack in part by throwing hot coffee at her assailant’s face, WTOP News reports.
She says recovering from mental and emotional trauma of the attack has taken much longer than recovering from the physical harm she endured.
Craig’s chief of staff said there was no evidence that this attack was politically motivated.
