U.S. Representative David Kustoff (R-TN-08) introduced a bipartisan resolution denouncing antisemitism on college campuses in the U.S. House of Representatives this week.

Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL-25) joined Kustoff in introducing the resolution, which is co-sponsored by over 50 of their colleagues.

“The rise of antisemitism, especially within young people on college campuses, is abhorrent,” Kustoff, who chairs the House-Knesset Parliamentary Friendship Group, said in a statement.

“Hate has no place in our national discourse, and it is imperative that leaders condemn and voice their strong opposition to such horrifying acts of violence and discrimination,” Kustoff added. “Jewish students deserve to feel safe on their campuses, not be subjected to intimidation and harassment. I am proud to introduce this critical, bipartisan resolution that reiterates the need to combat antisemitism in higher education. I urge the swift passage of this resolution in the House of Representatives.”

Kustoff’s resolution is supported by the American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League, B’nai B’rith International, Hadassah – The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Jewish Federations of North America, Jewish on Campus, Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, and World Jewish Congress.

Recent preliminary data recorded by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Center on Extremism has shown a “significant spike” in antisemitic incidents across the U.S. following Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel on October 7.

Incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault increased by 388 percent over the same period (October 7-October 23 ) last year, according to the data.

“When conflict erupts in Israel, antisemitic incidents soon follow in the U.S. and globally,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “From white supremacists in California displaying antisemitic banners on highway overpasses to radical anti-Zionists harassing Jewish people because of their real or perceived support for the Jewish state, we are witnessing a disturbing rise in antisemitic activity here while the war rages overseas.”
