All eight Republican U.S. Representatives serving Tennessee congratulated Louisiana U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA-04) after being elected the 56th Speaker of the House on Wednesday.

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to my friend and 56th Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson…Speaker Johnson will work tirelessly to unite our conference, hold the Biden administration accountable, and address the many challenges facing our nation. Congressman Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), who voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-20), also called Johnson a “good man” who “answers to the people, not the lobbyists.”
“He will unite our party and push fiscally responsible policies because he fears God and puts this country first. I was proud to vote for him on the floor and I look forward to his leadership,” Burchett added.

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03), who ran a short bid for the House Speaker role, said Johnson is a “man of strong faith and firm conservative convictions, and will be an excellent Speaker for the American People.”
“I’m proud that our House Republican majority united to elect Mike on the first ballot to be our Speaker. It’s time for us to get back to work delivering common sense, conservative solutions to fix Democrats’ disastrous policies that are hurting Americans and making our country less safe,” Fleischmann added.

Congressman Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) acknowledged the GOP conference’s disagreements over the last three weeks since the House Speaker position was vacated, saying, “While we may not always agree on the strategy and direction of advancing conservative Republican principles, it is important to finally unify and unite and work toward being an effective check and balance on the Biden Administration and Democratic Senate that is out of touch with an overwhelming majority of the people of the 4th district of Tennessee.”
DesJarlais said he was pleased to vote for Johnson both at Tuesday’s conference and Wednesday on the House floor, adding, “I look forward to resuming the work of advancing the goals of fiscal responsibility, securing the border, and protecting the national security interests of our country.”

Congressman John Rose (R-TN-06) championed Johnson’s work as chairman of the Republican Study Committee and vice-chair of the Republican Conference, saying, “I know that his values closely match the values of the people of Middle and East Tennessee in the Sixth District.”
“Republicans are united and ready to govern under his leadership, and I am excited to get back to work on behalf of the American people and the folks I’m honored to represent in Tennessee’s Sixth District,” Rose added.

Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN-08) called Johnson a “steadfast conservative leader who is ready and able to lead the House Republican Conference.”
“I look forward to working with him to deliver much needed assistance to Israel, fund our government, secure our southern border, and get our economy back on track. It’s time to get to work,” Kustoff said.
Johnson, after being elected speaker, said he will “ensure the House delivers results and inspires change for the American people.”
“We will restore trust in this body. We will advance a comprehensive conservative policy agenda, combat the harmful policies of the Biden Administration, and support our allies abroad. And we will restore sanity to a government desperately in need of it. Let’s get back to work,” Johnson added.
