Tea Party Patriots Action (TPPA), a national conservative nonprofit, endorsed Florida U.S. Representative Byron Donalds’ (R-FL-19) bid for Speaker of the House Monday ahead of the House GOP Conference vote.

Donalds, who announced his candidacy Friday evening, is one of nine Republican congressmen running to be the next Speaker.

“Congressman Byron Donalds is a strong conservative who understands the threat to our republic posed by our massive and growing national debt and the reckless fiscal policies that fuel it. He speaks the language of the common man, and can explain in layman’s terms the dangers posed by continued reckless spending. He will fight to secure the border, and he will ensure that the values we share will guide his decision-making. He is a leader recognized by his colleagues, and is one of the best spokesmen in the Republican Party. He has strong support from our grassroots supporters,” TPPA Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin said in an emailed statement.

“Consequently, on behalf of our three million members and supporters, I am pleased to endorse Byron Donalds to serve as Speaker of the House,” Martin added.

TPPA’s endorsement of Donalds comes after the organization slammed the GOP Conference last week for “stabbing the majority of GOP voters in the back” by voting to no longer back Ohio Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH-04) for Speaker.

“Weak-spined GOP Congressmen vote one way on the floor for voters to see and another on a secret ballot behind closed doors with no accountability or transparency,” TPPA’s Martin said at the time.

House Republicans met on Monday evening for a candidate forum and are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday morning to both vote for a nominee and hold a floor vote to elect a speaker.
