An Emerson College Polling survey of 438 registered Ohio voters found former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden in a 2024 hypothetical presidential election matchup.
Out of those polled, 45 percent support Trump while 33 percent support Biden. The other 12 percent of polled voters plan to support someone else while 11 percent remain undecided.

Trump’s 12-point lead over Biden tops his 2016 lead over Hillary Clinton and his 2020 lead over Biden in the Buckeye State, as noted by Emerson’s Polling Director Spencer Kimball.
“Trump leads Biden by 12 points in Ohio, a larger lead than his 2020 and 2016 victories of about eight points,” Kimball said. “Like in the U.S. Senate race, younger and minority voters are more likely to be undecided or voting for someone else — indicating lower enthusiasm for Democratic candidates both at the statewide and national level.”
Pivoting to the 2024 Ohio U.S. Senate election, the same Emerson poll asked voters who they plan to support in the race, matching current Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) against three potential Republican 2024 U.S. Senate candidates.
In a matchup between Brown and State Senator Matt Dolan (R-Westlake), 38 percent support Dolan and 36 percent support Brown. Against Frank LaRose, 39 percent support LaRose and 38 percent Brown. In a matchup with Bernie Moreno, 35 percent support Brown, while 33 percent support Moreno.
“With just over a year until the 2024 Ohio U.S. Senate election, many established Democratic demographics, like voters under 30 and Black voters, are demonstrating a lower level of enthusiasm toward Brown,” Emerson’s Kimball noted. “It is not that these voters are supporting the Republican candidate over Brown, they are choosing to select someone else or note they are undecided at this point.”
As for approval ratings, Biden holds a majority disapproval in the Buckeye State at 58 percent, while just 25 percent approve of his job as president, and 17 percent are neutral.
