The Ohio Republican Party released a statement Wednesday offering its support for U.S. Representative Jim Jordan’s (R-OH-04) bid for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Congressman Jim Jordan is a staunch conservative and a fearless advocate for the America First movement. I fully support his bid to become Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Ohioans across the Buckeye State are confident in his leadership and ability to end the Democrats’ insanity in Washington,” Ohio GOP Chairman Alex Triantafilou said in an emailed statement.

Jordan sent a letter to his colleagues on Wednesday seeking their support for the House Republican Conference’s nomination for Speaker of the House just one day after the chamber adopted a motion to vacate former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-20) by a 216-210 vote.

“The Republican majority must continue to address the issues that matter to the American people,” Jordan wrote to his colleagues. “We must address rising crime in major cities and reject soft-on-crime, pro-criminal policies. We must get our fiscal house in order and reduce spending so that we can leave more to the next generation than a crushing deficit. We must do our constitutional oversight of the federal bureaucracy to ensure they work for the American people-not the other way around. And we must continue working to secure the border and protect our national security.”

“Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promises to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable,” Jordan added. “We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference.”

While speaking to reporters after announcing his bid for the position, Jordan said he would be against moving forward with an aid package for Ukraine, saying, “The most pressing issue on Americans’ minds is not Ukraine – it is the border situation, it’s crime on the streets.”

Jordan has since earned endorsements from many of his Republican colleagues, including Indiana U.S. Congressman Jim Banks (R-IN-03), Kentucky U.S. Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY-04), and Illinois U.S. Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL-15).
