Ohio Democratic lawmakers want zero legal restrictions on abortion in the state, according to a new poll conducted by the Ohio Republican Party.
The Ohio Republican Party straw X poll last week detailed that 71.4 percent of individuals surveyed said that Ohio Democratic officials and abortion lobbyists want to remove all legal restrictions to abortion in Ohio.
The poll asked the individuals surveyed, “Which Ohio Democrat is going to be the first to outline what legal restrictions they believe there should be on abortion?” The poll shows that U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) garnered 17.9 percent of the vote, Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) received 7.1 percent of the vote, and U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09) sits at 3.6 percent of the vote. Over 70 percent of those polled said that Democrats want zero abortion restrictions.
The Ohio Republican Party said it conducted the straw poll of 114 individuals between September 21st and September 25th.
While the overwhelming majority of poll respondents clearly said that Democrats do not want any legal restrictions on abortion in Ohio, the poll showed that the second place went to Brown.
Brown voted against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children from late-term abortion after five months of pregnancy, as well as voted to eliminate or prevent protections for children born alive after failed abortions, and voted in favor of allowing Ohioan’s tax dollars to be used for elective abortions.
According to the Ohio Republican Party, Brown should clearly indicate if he believes there should be legal restrictions on abortions.
“If Brown actually believes there should be any restrictions on abortion, he should clearly say so. However, his record strongly indicates otherwise. At best, he might steal Gavin Newsom’s talking points…. Or Nan Whaley’s… or Tim Ryan’s…..,” the Ohio GOP said.
The Republican Party continued saying that if Issue 1 passes on the November ballot to enshrine abortion into the state Constitution, no restrictions are precisely what the state of Ohio will get.
This proposed amendment would add Section 22 to Article 1 of the state constitution. The proposal would remove Ohio’s parental notification legislation when a minor wants an abortion and the requirement that abortionists adhere to fundamental hospital health and safety standards. The proposal also aims to permit abortions after babies have heartbeats and can feel pain.
“Despite being widely unpopular, it is abundantly clear that Democrat officials and abortion lobbyists want zero restriction on abortion. They tie themselves in knots to avoid even saying that it is wrong to abort a baby in the third trimester of pregnancy. Sherrod Brown should be honest with Ohio— he wants zero legal restrictions on abortion. Issue 1 is an overreach, and no restrictions is exactly what we will get if it passes,” the Ohio GOP said.
Ohio voters will decide on the passage of Ohio State Issue 1 at the November 7th general election.
