Tennessee U.S. Representative and chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security Mark Green (R-TN-07) condemned the Biden administration for approving an increase of 1,500 military personnel to “supplement U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) efforts” on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Green accused the Biden administration of “using our troops to facilitate the demise of our homeland security, instead of securing our borders.”
“By having our men and women in uniform do administrative work to help move illegal aliens into the interior of the country quicker, President Biden is now using our troops to facilitate the demise of our homeland security, instead of securing our borders,” Green stated.
“On January 20, 2021, the number of Border Patrol agents didn’t change and the CBP-enacted budget has remained the same. What changed was the removal of key policies that promoted law and order and ensured the security of the U.S. homeland,” Green added.
The Tennessee congressman said, “Don’t be fooled, Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden deliberately and intentionally created this historic crisis. It is amazing the lengths they will go to avoid implementing the last administration’s successful border security policies. The real question remains: why would President Biden be sending the military somewhere that isn’t in ‘crisis’ mode?”
The deployment comes as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is anticipating an increase in migration due to the lifting of Title 42 next week.

The additional 1,500 troops will join the existing 2,500 military personnel currently providing support at the southwest border, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
For 90 days, the additional troops will complete ground-based detection and monitoring tasks, data entry, and warehouse support. The troops will not directly participate in law enforcement activities, the Department of Defense notes, and instead will help “free up DHS law enforcement personnel to perform their critical law enforcement missions.”
