Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday criticized Disney’s lawsuit against him and his political allies, arguing that the case does not have merit and is politically motivated.

“I don’t think the suit has merit, I think it’s political,” DeSantis told reporters during his trip to Israel, The Hill reported.

Disney on Wednesday filed the lawsuit against the Republican governor and other state officials for allegedly creating a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” over the company’s opposition to the Parental Rights in Education bill, dubbed by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The Florida state government eventually passed a bill revoking Disney’s special control over the district where its park is located.

DeSantis continued to defend his state’s actions in regard to Disney when he addressed reporters Thursday.

“They had no transparency, no accountability, none of that, and that arrangement was not good for the state of Florida,” he said. “We did not think that that should continue, so we now have brought accountability.”
