Avelo Airlines announced on Thursday it is expanding service at Nashville International Airport (BNA) with exclusive nonstop flights to Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG), making it the first airline to offer flights from the Volunteer State to Delaware.
Wilmington Airport is a short drive south of Philadelphia. In a statement, BNA called the new route a “convenient and easy alternative to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).”

“ILG’s adjacency to multiple major highways makes it the Delaware Valley’s most convenient and travel-friendly airport, encompassing portions of four states: Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and the northern Eastern Shore of Maryland,” BNA wrote in a press release.
Avelo’s nonstop service between BNA and ILG will utilize 189-seat Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircrafts. According to BNA, flights will begin on June 22 and operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.
“This is outstanding news for Nashville and all Middle Tennessee, as this new service marks the first ever non-stop from BNA to Wilmington. We greatly appreciate Avelo’s commitment to providing additional travel options for our customers,” Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of Nashville International Airport said in a statement.
Avelo’s new nonstop service to Delaware is the airline’s second nonstop route from BNA, joining Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
“Nashville – say hello to Avelo, again! This new route to the Wilmington/Philadelphia area exemplifies our ongoing commitment to bringing Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service to Nashville travelers. Getting to the four-state Delaware Valley region is now easier than ever,” Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy stated.
Avelo’s nonstop route from Nashville is part of the airline’s nine new nonstop destinations from ILG this summer. The airline expects to hire at least 35 new ILG-based crewmembers, including pilots, flight attendants, airport customer service crewmembers, aircraft maintenance technicians and supervisors to support the additional aircraft and flights.
