Kordsa, Inc. develops environmentally friendly products in the tire industry that “reduce fuel consumption and provide better wet grip.” Kordsa, Inc. also develops technologies for “lighter cars, performing with lower fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions in the composite industry.”
“Kordsa Inc. is excited to announce that we are committed to providing growth opportunities at our Chattanooga facility. At Kordsa, we believe that our employees are our greatest strength, and we are proud of being able to create many new jobs in the future. Our Kordsa Facility wants to continue the development of our business and our community for generations to come,” Kadir Toplu, COO of Kordsa, Inc., said in a statement.
The company’s current Chattanooga facility manufactures Nylon 66 yarn. It ships it to North Carolina, where it is converted into tire cord fabric and sold to tire manufacturers across the U.S., according to a press release by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).
Korda’s expansion project will allow the company to expand its capacity to convert its own products into tire cord fabric as opposed to shipping them to a third party, TNECD notes.
The company’s expansion project will create 200 new jobs in Hamilton County.
“We are grateful Kordsa, Inc. has chosen to further invest in Hamilton County. This is a global company that we are proud to have in Tennessee, and we believe Chattanooga will continue to be the ideal location for this company’s future growth and success,” TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter stated.
According to 2022 data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturing is Chattanooga’s largest employment sector. Kordsa was listed as one of Chattanooga’s major employers in 2022, with a total of 248 full-time employees.
