An alleged illegal alien is accused of causing a highway car crash near Lancaster, Pennsylvania, around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, The Pennsylvania Daily Star learned.
Robert Jones, 62, was driving his wife Lisa, 59, in a Mercedes Benz SUV in East Hempfield Township. Jones said that a dump truck driven by Gabriel Corillo crashed into their vehicle and that the police report revealed Corillo, who did not speak English, has no U.S. driver’s license.
According to Jones, the dump-truck driver attempted to back up an exit ramp “ignoring blaring horns” as Jones “couldn’t get in reverse fast enough.” Impact to Jones’ car ensued. A photograph shared by the husband shows denting across his car’s front bumper.
Jones stated that Lisa, a former operating room nurse, suffers from physical disabilities, including right-side paralysis resulting from a stroke and brain aneurysms so he always makes sure to drive her in what he deems a safe automobile. He said her doctors based at the University of Pennsylvania have called her a singular case for having survived her injuries.
Jones was able to see the truck coming and braced himself for impact. He also reached over to his wife to protect her to the extent possible.
Upon impact, he said, Lisa snapped her head forward “pretty violently” and did not report any pain at first, merely exclaiming, “That sucks!” But on Wednesday, she began to feel worse, so they anticipate a brain scan will occur on Thursday morning at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, where she is now staying.
“Now she’s actually starting to suffer,” he said. “She didn’t initially feel too bad…. They take pretty good care of her here.”
Corillo, who Jones said appeared to be a relatively young adult, suffered no apparent injury. Jones said the man’s boss eventually arrived and offered multiple times to pay for the vehicle damage without going through insurance.
“Automatically, when he hit me the third time with that, I’m pretty suspicious,” Jones recalled.
Jones expressed his gratitude to East Hempfield Township Police for their “awesome” professionalism during the ordeal.
He furthermore said this instance should remind public officials of the need to “fix the border.”
“I like to talk to Republicans and Democrats,” he said. “I like to hear people’s opinions that might even differ from mine. But what everybody seems to agree on is: Finish the wall, build access points that are better to process people so you don’t have to cross the river illegally and, Congress, just start doing your job.”
Even according to open border advocates, the populations of illegal residents in the United States and in Pennsylvania are vast. The liberal Migration Policy Institute estimates that 11,047,000 illegal immigrants currently live in America. Of those, about 153,000 live in the Keystone State.
East Hempfield Police did not return a call seeking comment.
