Liberty University, the largest Christian college in the United States, just announced the appointment of a new president and a new chancellor.
The board of trustees voted earlier this week to appoint Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Dondi E. Costin to be the university’s sixth president and Pastor Jonathan Falwell to be chancellor.
Former President Jerry Falwell Jr. resigned from the university in 2021 after being involved in numerous scandals. Interim president Jerry Prevo filled the role until the board elected a new president.
“When he laid out that vision nobody but Dr. Falwell and God believed it was going to happen,” said Costin in regards to his nomination. “And so, I just look forward to taking the baton and running as far and as fast as I can with a team of incredible people. And trying to fulfill as much as Dr. Falwell’s vision as I can.”
Jonathan Falwell is the senior pastor at Thomas Road Baptist Church and is the son of Liberty Founder Jerry Falwell Sr.
“The mission and the vision has always been at the forefront of what we’ve done going all the way back to day one. God has always led us to train champions for Christ,” said Jonathan Falwell. “And so when you talk about what’s going to change, the only thing that will change is that we’re going to do that better. My dad always said if it’s Christian it ought to be better.”
Both men will take their new roles during the start of the next school year.
