Dr. Daniel Pack, dean of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, has been recruited by Baylor University to serve as dean of its School of Engineering and Computer Science.
Baylor University is a private, R1 research institution located in Texas.

Pack holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University, a master’s degree from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University. UTC describes Pack as “renowned researcher in robots, computer vision and unmanned systems.”
Before joining UTC in 2016, Pack served as Mary Lou Clarke Professor and Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Furthermore, he was the founding director of the Academy Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Research at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado, where he served for 17 years.
Pack has received a number of teaching and researcher awards during his career so far, including being named the Carnegie U.S. Professor of the Year in 2005. According to Baylor, Pack has co-authored seven textbooks on embedded systems and published more than 130 book chapters, technical journal/transactions and conference papers on unmanned systems, cooperative control, robotics, pattern recognition and engineering education.
“The experience of working with top-class faculty, staff, students, advisory board members, friends and alums of the college, along with leaders of the Greater Chattanooga community, to advance the college’s mission will be remembered and cherished by me for the rest of my life,” Pack said in a statement. “The college is on a great path to fulfill its vision to become a preeminent college of engineering and computer science in the nation and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to contribute toward moving the college toward that vision. I will remain grateful to UTC and the people the institution represents.”
Pack’s appointment to serve at Baylor University is effective June 1, 2023.
