The University of Tennessee (UT) recently announced that enrollment at nearly every UT campus across the state has increased.

UT System President Randy Boyd made the announcement during a UT Board of Trustees Executive Committee meeting earlier this month, according to a press release by the university.
“In order to build the greatest decade in UT history, we must do our part to make higher education more accessible,” Boyd said in a statement. “I am encouraged to see we are trending in an extremely positive direction overall.”
Boyd reported that the UT System’s total enrollment increased almost 4 percent, while undergraduate enrollment increased nearly 5 percent. The UT System also saw an increase of 12.2 percent in new freshmen, 3.6 percent in transfers, and 1.4 percent in new graduate students.
The UT Knoxville campus saw total enrollment grow 6.6 percent and undergraduate enrollment grow 7.9 percent in one year. Additionally, UT Knoxville led all campuses with a 15.1 percent increase in new freshmen and 9 percent growth in transfers.
The UT Chattanooga campus saw enrollment decline by 1.5 percent, however, the campus saw an 8.2 percent growth in new freshmen and 5.9 percent growth in new graduate students.
The UT Health Science Center campus in Memphis also saw overall enrollment decline by 3 percent, but undergraduate enrollment was up 11.7 percent and new transfer student enrollment was up 17.1 percent.
The UT Martin campus saw total enrollment grow 2.3 percent, with a 6.4 percent increase in new freshmen and a 5.7 percent increase in new transfer student enrollment. In addition, UT Martin saw nearly 19 precent growth in new graduate student enrollment.
The University of Tennessee’s newest campus, UT Southern in Pulaski, saw enrollment grow 6.6 percent. The campus saw a 28.4 percent increase in new transfer student enrollment and a 16.7 percent increase in new graduate student enrollment.
“For the past four years our board has been focused on enrollment growth, improved graduation rates, research growth and student/faculty success,” UT Board of Trustees Chair John Compton said in a statement. “Our campuses are doing a terrific job and today’s news on enrollment growth is further testament to our team’s success.”
