President Biden is reportedly criticized GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham over his proposed bill to ban abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, saying, “My church doesn’t even make that argument now.”

“Think about what these guys are talking about: no exceptions – rape, incest – no exceptions, regardless of age,” Biden, who is Catholic, said about the bill Tuesday at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in New York City, according to The Hill.

Last week, Graham introduced the “Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act,” which includes exceptions for incest, rape and for saving the life of the mother if she is in danger from a physical condition.

Graham said after the Supreme Court in June overturned Roe v. Wade, which ended federal abortion protections, that decisions about the procedure should be left up to states.

However, following the introduction of the bill, he said, “I think we should have a law at the federal level that would say after 15 weeks, no abortion on demand except in cases of rape, incest and save the life of a mother.”

At the DNC fundraiser, Biden continued, “Well, the good news is – for me, anyway – I’m going to be around at least for another two years, so he can pass or it not, I’m going to veto it. It’s not going to happen.

“I happen to be a practicing Roman Catholic,” he also said. “My church doesn’t even make that argument now.”

According to the Roman Catholic Church’s catechism, “From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”

“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion,” the catechism also states. “This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable.”

The catechism doesn’t mention rape or incest with regard to abortion.
