Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, surrounded by family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
Officials announced Tuesday that the queen was under medical supervision, and her family traveled to her summer residence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to be by her side.
As recently as Tuesday, the queen actively participated in diplomatic affairs. She met with her country’s newest prime minister, Liz Truss. However, speculators raised concerns about Queen Elizabeth’s health as it was the first time during her 70-year reign that she appointed an incoming prime minister somewhere other than Buckingham Palace.
Elizabeth’s 73-year-old eldest son, Charles, immediately became king of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth upon the queen’s death.

So what am I supposed to do? Shed tears over the death of a pampered, over-paid, and under-worked plutocrat?
