The City of Miami is hosting a gun buyback program Saturday and donating the weapons to Ukraine’s defense, according to the city.
The Miami website advertises the event as a way to prevent gun violence and support Ukraine. Donors will be offered up to $150 per gun, and the firearms will be either discarded or donated for use in the defense of Ukraine.
“Turning in a gun during the gun buyback the [sic] provides safety and security of knowing that the weapon will be properly disposed of or reallocated for use in support of Ukraine. It is also a great way to show your support in the fight against gun violence,” the event’s website read.
The city is offering Visa gift cards of $150 for .223 caliber firearms, AR-15s and AK-47s; $100 for shotguns and rifles and $50 for other weapons, according to the website. Homemade and replica firearms will not be bought back, but can still be turned in.
Donations will go to Ukraine Congress Committee of America, and the weapons will either be disposed of or reallocated for the defense of Ukraine, the website said. The program is “no questions asked” and doesn’t require donors to show ID.
Foreign fighters have noted how easy it is to get Ukrainian weapons, with some volunteers simply crossing the border into the country and joining the fight, and the U.S. doesn’t really know where weapons go when they’re sent into Ukraine. The U.S. government has raised red flags about Ukraine’s lack of transparency in its military plans.
A spokeswoman for the City of Miami told the Daily Caller News Foundation she had no information beyond what was listed on the website. The Ukraine Congress Committee of America did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Yeah right. Do you realize what kind of useless junk the vast majority of guns turned in are. These events are a dog and pony show so it looks like they are doing something. The reality is it’s a culture problem not a gun problem.
This is what a decaying society looks like.
Sending them American made firearms would be a mistake. Send AK47s or AK74s something they understand. Even clones made in this country, I had one and it was a good rifle that the people in Ukraine would be familiar with. In other words, give them what they want and ask for. Not what Biden thinks they should have. That guy has obviously never had his life threatened so what does he know?
So, a person has a $1,000 AR 15 and Miami is going to give $150 for it. Apparently they don’t intend to ship many firearms to Ukraine. But aside from that. Isn’t that forbidden by international and state and federal laws?
How can you buy back something you never owned?
Gun thefts will now double until this is over but people’s safety and well being is a price the rabid I’d willing to pay for their distorted goal. $150 for your $1500 AR-15. Oooohhh what a deal. Gun violence will go up during this event, it never fails.
Sounds questionable. Exactly how are they going to get the guns to Ukraine? Will they send ammunition with them? Can anyone just go and mail guns to a foreign country? Or is it a ruse to disarm people?
Criminals will be able to profit from some of the guns they have stolen. Gun owners will be able to get rid of guns in their collection they don’t like; or be able to get rid of guns that don’t work, or don’t work well. What could go wrong?
Will serial numbers be recorded?
Lynn, I don’t know about anyone else but if I shipped a rifle or pistole to Ukraine I think I’d ground the serial number off. They don’t care about something like that, what they want is something that will kill the enemy.
