A new general counsel, a senior advisor, and two deputy directors have been appointed to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
The agency announced on recently that Frank Fiss has been named deputy director of business operations. In his new role as deputy director, he will oversee administrative responsibilities including TWRA’s budget, marketing, and human resources, the agency notes.
“I look forward to working with staff and our partners to deliver the best outdoor experiences that Tennessee can offer,” Fiss said in a statement. Throughout his career, Fiss has worked with many state, federal, and non-governmental organizations to benefit aquatic resources and Tennessee anglers.
In addition, Brandon Wear has been named deputy director of field operations at TWRA. This position is responsible for the direction and oversight of all agency field activities performed by the wildlife, fisheries, law enforcement, biodiversity, and engineering divisions, TWRA notes.
“One of the greatest assets of any organization is its employees, and TWRA is no exception,” Wear said in a statement. “I am truly honored and humbled to be in a position to guide the direction of our field staff as we work to conserve and manage the resources for Tennesseans and our visitors.”
According to TWRA, Fiss and Wear bring a combined 45 years of experience in wildlife and fisheries management with the agency.
TWRA has also named Torrey Grimes as general counsel for the agency.
“Grimes will be an excellent addition to the team,” TWRA Executive Director Jason Maxedon said in a statement. “He will bring valuable outside perspective and nearly two decades of experience navigating the legislative and rule-making process which will be a critical asset for the agency.”
On Wednesday, TWRA also announced that it has named State Senator Mike Bell (R-Riceville) as the agency’s new senior advisor for legislative affairs and policy. Bell, who had previously announced his intent to retire from the Senate, will resign his seat effective August 31. He begins his new role with the TWRA September 1, according to the agency.
“I look forward to working with TWRA,” Bell said. “For as long as I can remember I have been an avid outdoorsman. I am excited for the opportunity to help advance the agency’s efforts to ensure Tennessee’s rich natural resources can be enjoyed for many future generations.”
