NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Faith and Freedom Coalition Executive Director Timothy Head spoke with The Tennessee Star about the impact he expects the organization to have on the 2022 midterm elections on Thursday.
“We now have a national database of faith-based conservative voters that’s about 43 million people. What we’ll do in the fall in election cycles is we’ll target those voters,” he said.
“This year we’ve identified 22 different states, and the jury is still out on this – but there’s between 60 and as much as 80 congressional races that we’ll be targeting these faith-based voters in to make sure that they are educated,” he added.
Head talked about the voter guide that the Faith and Freedom Coalition distributes to voters.
“We produce a voter guide that states and documents where candidates fall on issues related to life, marriage, religious liberty, Israel, and other issues. The core issues tell Christian voters where people stand on those issues,” he continued. “We do direct mail, email, social media, et cetera but we also still do phone banking and the shoe leather door-to-door campaigns.”
“In 2020, we hit just shy of six million doors. We expect to hit seven-and-a-half to eight million doors in 22 states this year. That number continues to grow significantly each cycle,” said Head.
Head spoke about what he thinks motivate the voters that his organization targets.
“Christian voters still have bank accounts and still have jobs. Its kind of a false delineation to ask what they’re voting on other than economic issues,” he said. They’re definitely voting on economic issues, but here we are on the cusp in the pro-life movement of almost exactly 50 years.”
Head also talked about the impact of the pending U.S. Supreme Court decision will have on the voters that Faith and Freedom talks to.
“We don’t know exactly, but we have a pretty good idea of what it looks like the Supreme Court is thinking and headed – more than likely moving it from a federal issue to a state-by-state issue,” he said.
“One, that’s a major victory unto itself for a lot of pro-life voters. Secondly, it also gives a new scope of work for Christian voters as well. 27 to 30 states are going to make abortion either completely eliminated or significantly reduce it. That is going to galvanize those voters,” the executive director said.
“Currently, it is very galvanizing and once it’s truly on the books and the opinion is released, that’ll move clear into focus. I think a lot of social conservatives feel like there’s a lot of wind at their sails and they are catching a lot of momentum. There’s a lot of encouragement,” he added.
Head also answered the question of why some voters may stay home in November and why they should not skip this year’s elections.
“There could be a couple of reasons that people might not be voting. One is they might not like the candidates. Two, maybe there may be some funny business around polls and they feel that their vote may or may not be counted,” he said.
“I would say that the only way you would know for sure that your vote won’t be counted is if you’re sitting at home and not actually participating. That’s your 100 percent guarantee that your vote is not being counted,” emphasized Head.
“Almost 20 different states have passed pretty meaningful voter integrity reforms in the last 18 months. I think that has kind of tightened down some loose ends that were out there,” he concluded.
The Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference took place in Nashville, Tennessee from Thursday to Saturday at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.
