June 14 marked the 247th birthday of the United States Army and Flag Day, and Tennessee’s politicians posted messages on social media marking both observances.
U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) shared the following message on Tuesday, “Our Nation has remained free, secure, and prosperous because of 247 years of great bravery, service, and sacrifice by our U.S. Army and its generations of selfless troops. Happy Birthday, @USArmy!”
In honor of Flag Day, he said, “The stars & stripes we pledge our allegiance to emanate the freedom & opportunity that are at the foundation of our country & stir up hope in the hearts of Americans here at home & abroad. On #FlagDay, we honor our unshakeable banner of freedom, its history & its meaning.”
U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)tweeted, “Happy birthday to the @USArmy! Thank you to each and every member of the Army for their selfless service.”
She also tweeted an image of the American flag and said, “God bless the USA! #FlagDay”
U.S. Representative John Rose (R-TN-06) tweeted, “Today we celebrate 247 years of the @USArmy. Immensely thankful for the bravery of all of the men and women who served, from 1775 to today.”
He also said, “On June 14, we celebrate our great American flag. It was first adopted by the Second Continental Congress on this day in 1777. Happy #FlagDay, folks!”
U.S. Representative Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) said, “247 years of sacrifice and service from countless brave men and women. Happy Birthday @USArmy! Thank you for protecting and defending our great Nation.”
Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs marked the U.S. Army anniversary, saying “Happy birthday to the @USArmy. To all who have served over the years, thank you.”
“Our flag represents our freedom – freedom to speak, worship and raise our families as we please. #FlagDay,” he said in honor of Flag Day.
Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville) also marked the day, saying, “Happy 247th Birthday to the @USArmy! Thanks to all American Soldiers past and present for their steadfast dedication, determination, and service to our grateful nation.”
Additionally, Sexton said, “Today, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes and remember the brave men and women who have profoundly answered the call to defend our American flag – an unwavering symbol of hope, freedom, and opportunity for all! #FlagDay”
Several of Tennessee’s Republican legislators and elected officials marked the day’s historical holidays and events, as well as noted that Tuesday was also former President Donald Trump’s birthday.
