A U.S. senator from Ohio Tuesday slammed President Joe Biden for record gas prices and sky-high inflation while Biden blamed Republicans, despite the fact that Democrats control both chambers of Congress and the White House.

“The Biden admin & its policies are responsible for the soaring inflation we see today. Inflation has risen every single month since [Biden] took office. The admin’s reckless spending policies combined with increased regulation have caused the worst inflation in 40 years,” Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) said on Twitter.

“The national average price for gas soared to an all-time high today,” Portman said. “As we face a worsening energy & inflation crisis, the Biden admin should abandon its reckless spending policies & support responsible efforts to expand domestic energy production.”

In a Tuesday address about the soaring prices of food, gasoline and household goods, Biden blamed Republicans.

“The other path is the ultra-MAGA plan, put forward by Congressional Republicans – to raise taxes on working families, lower the income of American workers, threaten sacred programs that Americans count on like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and give break after break to big corporations and billionaires.”

“Look, I know you’ve gotta be frustrated,” Biden said. “I know. I can taste it. Frustrated by high prices caused by gridlock in Congress. By the time it takes to get anything done. Believe me, I understand the frustration. But the fact is, Congressional Republicans – not all of them, but the MAGA Republicans – are counting on you to be as frustrated by the pace of progress which they have done everything they can to slow down.”

Biden later refused to say how long it might take for Americans to see a price decrease in household goods, food, and gas prices.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) also blasted Biden, noting that he laughed when comedian Trevor Noah nudged him about inflation at the recent White House Correspondents Dinner.

“Here’s Biden two weeks ago laughing hysterically about the inflation that’s crushing American families,” the RNC said.

The RNC also noted that in a 2020 dig on former President Donald Trump, Biden claimed he would take responsibility for his actions if elected to the presidency, suggesting that Trump blamed others for problems during his administration.

Meanwhile, Democrats and some Republicans in Congress Tuesday proposed a $40 billion foreign aid package to Ukraine, which is under siege by Russian forces.
