The Republican National Committee (RNC) held a voter registration drive on Cinco de Mayo at a gas station in Phoenix to target new voters who are tired of high gas prices.
Furthermore, the event is a portion of a nationwide effort from the party for Latino voter outreach.
In recent months, Americans have felt the pain of increased gas prices and continued inflation for other goods and services. President Joe Biden has attempted to shift the blame from his administration to various entities. In separate addresses, he pointed to price hikes from oil companies and the invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“This is the Biden Gas Hike. Biden can try to shift blame for his record-high gas prices, but Americans know the Democrats’ anti-U.S. energy agenda is costing them more at the pump,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
In Arizona, residents have remained one of the hardest-hit states. The high prices led Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who is running in the GOP primary, to conduct a similar move.
As previously reported, The “Gasoline Misery Index” from the Metro Business Daily Network details that residents of the state will pay an average of $764 more for gas this year compared to last. While prices have declined in recent weeks, fuel still averages $4.59 per gallon in the state, compared to $3.06 last year.
After spiking earlier this year, prices leveled off. However, they appear to be on the rise again.
“Increasing gas demand and rising oil prices have pushed pump prices higher. Pump prices will likely face upward pressure as oil prices remain above $105 per barrel,” explained AAA.
Amid the high prices, Biden approval ratings have continued to sink. One poll showed that nearly half of the country, 47 percent, say the economy is “poor.” The number has not been that high since 2012.
