Former Ohio GOP Chair Jane Timken’s campaign for U.S. Senate has gained momentum, as Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway have endorsed the candidate.
Portman, whose seat Timken is running for, detailed that she was the best candidate to win the general election in November, a crucial seat for Republicans to gain control of the chamber.
“I believe Jane Timken is the best candidate to advance conservative Republican policies to help Ohio workers and families. Jane is smart and hardworking, and understands the needs of Ohioans. I believe Ohioans would be proud to have her representing us in the United States Senate. She has a record of success, including working tirelessly for years to support Republicans at every level. She led the effort as Ohio Republican Party chair to elect Republicans to all statewide constitutional offices in 2018, and to win Ohio by 8 points for President Trump in 2020,” said Portman in a statement on Wednesday. “I am confident in her ability to win both the primary and the general elections, ensuring that this Senate seat remains Republican with a 50-50 Senate, and so much at stake.”
Furthermore, Timken picked up the support of Conway, who will also join the contender’s campaign team as a senior strategist.
Previously, Conway backed Bernie Moreno; however, the candidate recently dropped out of the race.
“Jane Timken is a true MAGA champion who was there for President Trump in 2016 and throughout his presidency when many others, including her opponents, hid or stayed on the sidelines,” Conway said. “In a field of click-bait candidates, celebrities and rich guys trying to buy this election, Jane stands out as the thoughtful leader, mom on a mission, and problem-solver ready to tackle the issues facing Ohio.”
Recent polling showed Timken in fifth place among her GOP rivals.
