Ohio State University’s annual “Sex Week,” which begins Sunday, will feature two days for students to meet and thank abortion providers.
“Meet [Student Advocates for Sexual Health Awareness] (SASHA) in the Union on the 1st floor on to help thank abortion providers in Ohio and Texas for the valuable work they do for reproductive rights! We will be creating valentines,” the group’s schedule says.
The Catholic League condemned the event on its website.
“To show how progressive they are at Ohio State, on two days next week — Wednesday and Friday — they will hold an event, ‘Valentine’s for Abortion Providers,'” the organization said. “This will give administrators, faculty and students an opportunity to thank doctors who kill unborn children for a living for their yeoman service.”
On February 14, Valentine’s Day itself, the group will hold what it calls a “SEXPO,” an educational fair centered around sex, and an event to explore sexual kinks.
“Walk through our ‘adult’ science fair to learn more about various areas of sex education! Test your anatomy knowledge by playing our version of Pin The Tail, try fun lube flavors at our taste-testing booth, guess which birth control method you’re holding, and more fun activities to liven up your Valentine’s Day!” the SEXPO event says.
“Wondering how to spice up your sex life as a trans person or ally? Join The Garden for an event surrounding BDSM and sex toys, with a focus on trans-affirming toys. We hope this exciting event will ‘rope you in to learn more about trans-friendly play!” says an event called “Blinders, Packers and Toys? Oh My!”
Other events include trans affirmation, queer history, “exploration,” and another seminar for introducing students to kinks and fetishes.
SASHA says “Sex Week” is meant to teach students who may not have been exposed to sexual activity in high school about current “sexual health” practices.
“We missed a lot in high school — socially, biologically, and scientifically,” the group says. “That is why Ohio State is creating a judgment-free, inclusive, relatable space for our community to explore the sides of sexual health that they never really learned. That is why Sex Week is here.”
Ohio State University spokesman Christopher Butler told The Ohio Star “the event is organized by students,” and that “no tax or tuition dollars are used to sponsor the event, and the student organization has not received funding from student fees for the event.”
“Ohio State has more than 1,400 student organizations and a deep and abiding commitment to free speech,” he added.
