The office of Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) responded Wednesday to criticism it has drawn over an email Critical Race Theory (CRT) tip line it has made available to Virginia’s parents.
“The governor’s office set up [email protected] as a resource for parents, teachers, and students to relay any questions or concerns,” Youngkin spokesperson Macauley Porter told The Virginia Star. “Governor Youngkin was elected to serve all Virginians and has utilized a customary constituent service, to hear from Virginians and solicit feedback.”
Through the email tip line, parents can report objectionable content, including the teaching of CRT or its framework in their children’s classes. “I have said all along that we are going to stand up for parents. Executive Order 2 is not about pro-masks versus anti-mask, it’s about empowering parents. I am confident that the Virginia Supreme Court will rule in the favor of parents, reaffirming the parental rights clearly laid out in the Virginia code § 1-240.1. In the meantime, I urge all parents to listen to their principal, and trust the legal process. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at [email protected],” Youngkin said in a press release.
Youngkin issued an order banning CRT on his first day in office.
For their part, the political left says CRT is not officially part of Virginia’s school curriculum. While it may not be, mountains of evidence show that the principles of CRT are being taught in Virginia’s schools.
The tip line can also be used for COVID-19 related concerns. Many school districts have sued Youngkin for banning mask mandates. Currently, those districts and others are still mandating masks for their students, in defiance of the order.
Monday, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) quarantined students who attempted to follow the new governor’s mask orders in a gymnasium.
Loudoun County has been a hotbed of parents protesting over CRT and mask mandates, and residents there have launched a recall effort against the district’s top school board member.
