The Tucson Station of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Sunday that it had apprehended a previously convicted attempted murderer attempting to illegally reenter the United States.
“Records revealed that Reynaldo Lira-Luqez was convicted of multiple felonies in [Miami Dade County, Florida] to include Attempted Second-Degree Murder,” John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of Tucson Sector CBP said on Twitter.Â

According to CBP, more than 10,000 illegal aliens with prior criminal convictions in the United States were apprehended during fiscal year 2021, which ran from Sept. 2020 to Oct. 2021.
The Arizona Sun Times has chronicled many of those arrests.
About a month ago, CBP agents at the Yuma Sector arrested a previously-convicted child rapist.
Edgard Antonio Gutierrez-Martinez had previous convictions for felony first degree child rape and incest when he was taken into custody.
Before that, CBP in Arizona arrested five previously convicted and deported sex criminals in a single week. Of those, four had been convicted of sex crimes against children.
Those convicts were:
- Fernando Diaz-Ramirez, convicted of endangering – sexual conduct with a child in New Jersey.
- Neri Carrasco-Gonzalez, convicted of sexual abuse of children in the third degree in Pennsylvania
- Fausto Carrera-Pascual, convicted of indecent liberties with a child in North Carolina.
- Luis Jocop-Can, convicted of raping a child in New York.
- Edenilson Ariel Hernandez-Linares, a registered sex offender in Connecticut.
The Sun Times reached out to the National Border Patrol Council seeking comment on whether reentries among violent criminals had increased under the Biden administration, but did not immediately hear back.
What is clear is that the number of illegal aliens crossing into the United States has reached record-breaking levels.
During fiscal year 2021, CBP arrested 1.7 million illegal aliens crossing the border.
During calendar year 2021, roughly the amount of time the Biden Administration will have occupied the White House, that number is expected to reach two million.
