Breakthrough COVID-19 cases have surpassed 64,000 in Minnesota as more than 483 fully-vaccinated Minnesotans have died from the virus, the Department of Health reported Monday.
As of Nov. 1, there were 372 breakthrough deaths. Now, as of Nov. 8, there are 483. This means that 111 of the 168 reported deaths in the last week have been in the vaccinated, according to Healthy Skeptic.
A total of 64,844 fully-vaccinated Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Department of Health’s weekly breakthrough report. That figure represents 2.015% of the 3.2 million fully-vaccinated residents, up from 1.69% last week. Breakthrough cases have increased by 7,281 from last Monday.
2,956 breakthrough cases have resulted in hospitalization.
The Department of Health doesn’t disclose “breakthrough data by date of event,” according to health care veteran Kevin Roche. This makes it very difficult to determine what percentage of new cases, deaths, and hospitalizations are breakthrough events.
“They think about the message they want first and then they put out data in a way that is designed to support that message. That’s frankly just a despicable practice. It’s disrespectful of the citizenry, and the state of Minnesota clearly does that,” Roche told Alpha News.
The state reported 4,253 new cases and 34 new deaths Monday. According to MPR News, this is the highest number of new cases since December. Minnesota also hit a 2021 high of 25,387 active cases.
Yet 61% of the state’s population is fully vaccinated, the 17th-highest vaccination rate in the nation.
