Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spent the weekend making the rounds on Fox News programming where he lauded his work as governor and the varying efforts he is pushing. Notably, DeSantis spent time on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Friday where he said President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate is unconstitutional.

“Over anything, this should be an individual choice,” DeSantis said. “Your livelihood should not be dependent on whether you get a COVID shot, much less in the future if these mandates take hold, whether you get your yearly booster every six months, or whatever they’re going to make you do. This is a personal decision.”

DeSantis also tweeted out a three-point explanation of his thoughts.

“1. Your livelihood should not be dependent upon whether you get a COVID shot,” DeSantis tweeted. “This is a personal decision. 2. The Biden Vaccine Mandate is unconstitutional, and we have a responsibility to fight back as a state. 3. Vaccine mandates are bad for the economy.”

In the wake of the Biden vaccine mandates, DeSantis has called for a special session to resolve the issue of vaccine mandates, hoping the Florida Legislature will put forward legislation to ban them. DeSantis said the issue is too important to wait until the next legislative session, which begins in January.

“I will not let the heavy hand of government force Floridians to take a shot,” DeSantis tweeted. “That violates their constitutional rights, infringes on their medical freedom, and threatens their livelihoods. We will hold a Special Session to fight for Floridians’ freedom. #DontTreadOnFlorida”

DeSantis also spent time on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo where he talked about Florida’s seaports being open, available, and ready to receive the large number of cargo ships being stranded at sea due to overly crowded seaports in major cities.

He also spent time talking about the new initiative to recruit new law enforcement officer to Florida.

“As so many cities and states choose to disrespect, degrade and defund the honorable work of law enforcement, we want Florida to continue valuing our men and women of law enforcement today, tomorrow and for generations to come,” said DeSantis in a press release. “That’s why today, I am proud to announce new initiatives to recruit and reward brave, high quality law enforcement officers in Florida that I will be including in my legislative priorities for our upcoming legislative session, including $5,000 signing bonuses.”
