Five Wisconsin mayors will be receiving subpoenas as part of the ongoing election investigation. Head investigator Michael Gableman announced on Tuesday that the mayors of Green Bay, Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and Madison would be subpoenaed to assist in the audit.
The subpoenas were for Eric Genrich, mayor of Green Bay; Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee; Cory Mason, mayor of Racine; John Antaramian, mayor of Kenosha; and Satya Rhodes-Conway, mayor of Madison.
As reported by WISN, Gableman announced the subpoenas before the Green Bay Common Council on Tuesday. “Mirror images of the subpoenas that either were or are soon to be served on you, Mr. Mayor, and the person most knowledgeable in your office — the mirror images were served on the other four cities; the other mayors and their offices who accepted the vast lion share of the CTCL assistance,” Gableman said.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Gableman stopped in on Green Bay’s city council meeting unplanned, allegedly saying, “I happened to be in town for other meetings and I heard you were meeting and I thought I’d come and introduce myself.”
Gableman also addressed a misspelling of a name on one of his subpoenas during the Tuesday meeting, saying, “It’s called the human condition. I’m not perfect. You’re not perfect. Nobody in this room is perfect. We’ve only had one perfect man in this world and look what we did to Him.”
The subpoenas for the mayors follow subpoenas for city officials and clerks, last week. As reported by The Wisconsin Daily Star, “The Wisconsin election investigator, former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, served subpoenas to five of Wisconsin’s largest cities last week.”
The subpoenas contain the same requests as those sent to the five cities. The mayors are being asked to “give evidence and testimony with regard to the November 2020 General Election in Wisconsin (the “Election”) including, but not limited to, potential irregularities and/or illegalities related to the Election.”
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Green Bay City Council voted to engage Law Forward, States United Democracy Center and Stafford Rosenbaum for legal assistance regarding the subpoenas after Gableman’s Tuesday announcement.
Gableman’s subpoenas have not yet included voting machines, however, those are not off the table. “Voting machines is certainly a topic of interest expressed by a lot of people and I’ve already said that yes, I — at some point I will be reviewing the issue of voting on all issues,” Gableman said in an interview.
As reported by The Daily Star, Milwaukee County officials are “ready to fight” possible subpoenas for their election machines for an election audit.
Gableman has stated that the purpose of the audit is not to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He said that he wants to find out if things were done correctly during the election and how to remedy that for future elections.
He said, “If things did go wrong, we will submit recommendations for how problems should be addressed so that voters can have complete confidence in all of our elections going forward. This investigation will be guided by a search for the truth and not by political priorities and political timetables.”
