The latest state reports show that Florida COVID cases and the positivity rate increased during the week ending July 1st. Also, hospitalizations remained the same, while deaths continued to decrease.
The state reported 15,978 cases during the week ending July 1st, compared to 11,807 cases for the week ending June 25th. The increase follows a consistent downward trend since the state reported approximately 37,000 cases for the April 23rd week. New cases reached a low during the June 11th week with 10,459.
The COVID positivity rate was up to 5.2% after reaching a low of 3.3% during week ending June 11th. Daily hospitalizations have been essentially the same for the last three weeks, with last week averaging 103 per day.
Despite the increase in cases, the number of deaths have been declining. The chart below shows that the number of deaths has been decreasing since the middle of January. Also, the number of COVID deaths have reached lows not seen since before the first wave of COVID cases during the spring of 2020.
The state report shows 248,721 people were vaccinated during the week ending July 1st.. This brings the cumulative total of Floridians vaccinated to 11,001,713. Of those people that have been vaccinated, 9,489,046 people have completed the series of vaccinations.
