According to a news release from Republican Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti’s Office, Skrmetti is co-hosting a charity drive for pregnancy centers as the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization nears.

That 2022 court case overturned the infamous Roe v. Wade, giving states the right to make their own abortion rights.

“In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is proud to partner with Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch in co-hosting a multistate donation drive to support more than 60 pregnancy centers across the U.S. from June 20th to 24th,” the press release says.

“Tennesseans have made clear, through their elected representatives, the desire to support mothers and children,” Skrmetti said. “In celebration of the Dobbs decision, I’m proud to highlight the organizations in our state who go above and beyond to provide resources and care for mothers-to-be.”

To participate, Tennesseeans – or anyone who would like to support the cause – can search through Amazon wishlists of pregnancy centers around the country and choose items to purchase for those pregnancy centers.

Pregnancy centers are alternatives to abortion clinics. Often, they offer free ultrasounds to show expectant mothers a photo of their unborn child, and they encourage women to give birth instead of terminating their pregnancies.

Hope Clinic for Women in Nashville, for example, has on its wishlist baby monitors, car seat covers, bassinets, baby wipes, and diapers, among other items.

“Thank you for your interest in donating maternity and baby items to Hope Clinic,” the clinic’s wishlist says. “This is a tax deductible donation, and these items will go directly to our pregnant clients and new parents who participate in our Bridge Program (which includes education classes, counseling, and mentoring in exchange for points to use in the Clothing Room). You can feel good knowing these women and men will earn and receive these much needed items as they are preparing to be the best parents possible.”

“Across the U.S., there are approximately 2,700 pregnancy centers that provide loving care and practical support to women and their children,” Skrmetti’s press release says. “Tennessee is home to 89 of these life-affirming pregnancy resource centers that provide care and practical support to women and babies before and after birth.”

Republican attorneys general from Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia are also participating.
