TN-5 Republican nominee Andy Ogles on Thursday criticized the Inflation Reduction Act.
According to the Thursday statement obtained by The Tennessee Star, Ogles expressed “strong opposition to the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ rammed through by Democrats in the Senate over the weekend without a single Republican Vote.”
“Democrat leaders, including former President Barack Obama, have long said it is idiocy to raise taxes during a recession,” Ogles noted, “and they are right. But they did it anyway!”
“The falsely named ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will raise taxes on working Americans, waste money on more green new deal boondoggles that reduce American energy independence and raise gas prices, and deploy 87,000 new IRS agents to harass American citizens while not putting a single additional border agent to work securing our wide-open southern border,” Ogles said in the statement. “If Truth in Advertising laws applied to Congress, then the fines and penalties that would be imposed would bankrupt the Democratic Party.”
Ogles’ statement notes that the $740 billion in new federal spending is expected to come before the House on Friday, with Democrats expected to pass it via a party-line vote.
“Every member of Congress should vote no on this economy-busting hit job on taxpayers. Even Sen. Bernie Sanders, one of most progressive legislators in the country, recognizes that this bill does nothing to fight inflation,” the statement said.
Referencing the 755-page bill, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) argued on the U.S. Senate floor that “according to the [Congressional Budget Office] and other economic organizations that have studied this bill, it will have a minimal impact on inflation.”
“We will pay a heavy price for this ridiculous boondoggle for years to come,” Ogles added, “but taxpayers have a chance to alter course and return America to greatness and prosperity in November, starting right here in the 5th District.”
