Court documents obtained by The Tennessee Star reveal that accused cyberstalker McKenzie McClure requested a status hearing to set a court date that will determine her next steps following the end of her commitment at an East Tennessee psychiatric facility.
Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against McClure in April, accusing her of cyberstalking. Video recorded around this time revealed she visited the campus of the Christ Presbyterian Academy, where she attended elementary school decades ago, and was accused of leaving a disturbing voicemail.
She is additionally understood to be the author of posts to the social media platform X that appear to make unclear threats against Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee.
Born a biological female, McClure appears to identify as a transgender man. The motion filed by McClure’s public defender uses exclusively masculine pronouns and refers to the defendant as McKenzie McClure, also known as Kalvin McClure.
McClure was in federal custody from May until being temporarily released to a psychiatric treatment center in East Tennesse, and the court document obtained by The Star explains the partial hospitalization program McClure is currently completing at the Pasadena Villa psychological treatment center in Sevierville, Tennessee, will conclude on August 28.
According to the court filing submitted by McClure’s attorney, she “will complete the partial hospitalization program on August 28 and requests a hearing on August 27.”
The filing further explains that prosecutors requested the hearing be held on September 3 due to competing defense and prosecuting attorney schedules.
The Star additionally obtained an email sent by the Department of Justice to one of McClure’s alleged victims, informing the individual that a status hearing was scheduled for Monday. The Star reported that previous court proceedings did not include victim impact statements.
Biographical information about McClure shares similarities with known information about Audrey Elizabeth Hale, the Covenant School killer who claimed the lives of six on March 27, 2023, before two Nashville police officers fatally shot her.
The accused cyberstalker and the killer were born just one year apart and lived parts of their lives in Nashville.
Both Hale and McClure attended Christian elementary schools in the Nashville area, publicly stated the desire to transition gender from female to male, failed to thrive as adults and visited their schools prior to incidents that culminated in law enforcement action.
Earlier this year, The Star obtained approximately 80 pages of Hale’s writings and a portion of police documents and has since published more than 100 articles that include the killer’s own words or provide new information about the Covenant investigation.
