Tennessee Governor Bill Lee endorsed Aron Maberry, a Montgomery County school board member, in the August 1 Republican primary election for Tennessee State House District 68.
“Aron Maberry is a dedicated public servant and conservative champion who stands for parental rights and will work hard to deliver opportunity, security and freedom for Tennesseans, including school choice for every Tennessee family,” Lee said in a statement.
“Aron will represent Montgomery County with integrity, and I fully support his election to the General Assembly,” Lee added.

Maberry said he was “grateful” to have received the governor’s support, adding, “I look forward to working with him next year in the Tennessee General Assembly.”
The race for House District 68 is open as incumbent State Representative Curtis Johnson (R-Clarksville), who assumed office in 2004, announced last year that he would not be seeking reelection to the seat.
In addition to the governor’s endorsement, Maberry has also been endorsed by Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action).
AFP Action specifically said it believes Maberry is “expected to play a crucial role in efforts to expand educational opportunities” if elected to the open seat, citing the candidate’s current role as a Montgomery School Board member and his “ties to the homeschool community.”
The top issues Maberry is running on, according to his campaign website, include infrastructure improvements, parents rights in education, border security, fiscal responsibility, anti-red flag laws, and public safety.
When it comes to education, Maberry confirms on his website that he supports the governor’s statewide universal school choice plan, which is expected to be first order of business in the next legislative session of the Tennessee General Assembly.
“Our children are our future, and I believe in the rights of parents to their children’s education…My experience and knowledge with our school district give me a unique perspective in addressing these challenges on a state level. I support Public, Private, micro-school, homeschool, and Charter schools as viable forms of education, and I support Governor Bill Lee’s call for statewide school choice,” Maberry’s website reads.
