With less than five months to go before the November election, a new super PAC has been launched as a joint effort between Hollywood employees and Democratic political strategists.

As reported by Politico, the new group is called Won’t PAC Down; its goal is to increase outreach to younger voters who are increasingly disillusioned with Biden over a number of issues, ranging from the war in Israel and the environment to the student loan crisis and inflation.

The PAC has hired writers, directors, and producers from Hollywood who are mostly within the age range of the Millennial and Gen Z generations, for the purpose of producing pro-Biden content on a more professional level than current campaign efforts. The group intends to raise and spend between $20 million and $25 million in its efforts.

Several of the writers and other Hollywood employees attached to the PAC including alumni from TV shows such as “Saturday Night Live,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Big Mouth.” The group has been holding meetings in a rented conference room in an office building located in downtown Los Angeles. Their planned first ads, which will primarily focus on social media and streaming platforms, are expected to begin airing in early July.

The group’s members intend for the content to have a better chance of reaching young voters if it is crafted by young voters. To this end, the PAC’s ads will not feature the previous Hollywood tactic of simply featuring well-known celebrities.

“There’s a big difference between putting a celebrity on camera and having them say, ‘if you liked me in “Madame Web,” then you’re going to love voting,’ versus what we’re doing,” said Travis Helwig, former head writer for Crooked Media who is now part of the PAC’s writing staff. “We’re taking the best young writers and directors, who are the age and demographics of the people we’re targeting, using poll-tested messaging, and shaping it in a way that will resonate with young people and get them excited.”

Although the Biden campaign is legally not allowed to coordinate with the PAC, it issued a statement nonetheless offering its support for the effort.

“Groups like Won’t PAC Down, which understand the power of the youth vote, will play a key role in mobilizing and activating young people across the country,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the Biden 2024 campaign manager.

Although Biden previously appeared to win the demographic of voters under the age of 30 by a margin of 25% over President Donald Trump in 2020, numerous polls now suggest that his support with this bloc is eroding fast. Gallup reports that Biden’s approval rating among this demographic is the lowest in modern history for a Democratic president. Former President Trump has been slowly increasing his share of this bloc, while many young voters who previously voted for Biden now either plan to not vote at all, or are considering third-party candidates, including independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
