Ireland, Norway and Spain say they will formally recognize a Palestinian state.

“Today, Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognize the state of Palestine,” Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said Wednesday. “Each of us will now undertake whatever national steps are necessary to give effect to that decision.”

The decision reflect a renewed energy in the U.S. and Europe amid the war between Israel and Palestinian-backed Hamas in Gaza to grant Palestinians statehood.

Palestinian statehood has been recognized by over 130 out of 193 member states of the United Nations, according information from the Palestine Liberation Organization reviewed by CNN.
