Two police officers are dead and another is seriously injured after a shooting in Bristol, Connecticut, police said Thursday.
The suspected gunman waited outside as officers responded to a domestic incident call in a residential area of Bristol on Wednesday evening, Connecticut State Police said. When the officers arrived, the suspect opened fire, killing one officer on site, officials said. The other officer died in the hospital.
The suspect was fatally wounded, and his brother was injured and taken to a hospital.
The officers have been identified as Sgt. Dustin Demonte, who joined the department in 2012 and is survived by his pregnant wife and two children, and Officer Alex Hamzy, who joined the department in 2014 and is survived by his wife, according to local outlet WTNH.
Gov. Ned Lamont (D) ordered all flags in the state to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the officers.
