OTICS USA, Inc. officials recently announced that the company will invest $147 million to expand its manufacturing operations in Morristown.

In 2001, OTICS USA, Inc. was founded as a subsidiary of Japan-based OTICS Corporation. OTICS manufactures automobile parts for a major automotive corporation.

With the new construction of an additional 55,000 square feet of space at its facility on Interstate View Drive in Morristown, the company will be able to “accommodate new business growth and increased fuel pipe production capabilities,” according to a press release by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).

OTICS’ new expansion project marks the fourth of its kind at the Morrison facility. The project is expected to bring 70 new jobs to Hamblen County, bringing its total number of employees to 450 people across its two East Tennessee locations in Kodak and Morristown, TNECD notes.

“OTICS USA’s expansion in Morristown is a testament to our state’s rich history in the automotive industry, and we stand ready to support this global brand so that it continues to succeed in the Volunteer State,” TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter said in a statement. “Congratulations to Morristown and Hamblen County on landing another great manufacturing win.”

OTICS is currently the 16th largest employer in Hamblen County, according to data by the county’s chamber of commerce.

“We are very proud of the fourth expansion of our Morristown facility and excited about our new projects. Our continued growth and expansion are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our team members,” Charlotte Jennelle, general manager/division head at OTICS said in a statement.

Morristown Mayor Gary Chesney called the company’s expansion project “wonderful news to start 2023,” adding, “OTICS USA has been a valuable member of our industrial community since its arrival.”
